Honkers go 2-1 in Kelowna

The Northwest Honkers traveled up to the Canada Weekend Tournament in Kelowna, B.C. this past weekend going 2-1 in pool play but not making it out on a three way tie-breaker of runs scored against with the Honkers giving up 19 and the other two teams only giving up 13.

The Honkers defeated the Kelowna Jays Thursday, June 27th in the opening game 12-5. Honkers Jason Salers pitched five innings for the win. The Honkers bats came out strong scoring seven in the first two innings only getting blanked in the third inning. Three Honkers, first baseman Clayton Truex, short stop Brandon Dormaier and left fielder Dalton Gervais, each had a triple in the game along with two Honkers, center fielder Chris Bradshaw and right fielder Gabe Rochon, hitting doubles. Truex had four RBI’s for the Honkers followed by Dormaier with three and Rochon with two.

In game two of pool play the Honkers defeated the Burnaby Senior Bulldogs 7-5. Honkers J.D. Scholten pitched the complete seven inning game for the win. Left fielder Gervais had a double in the game.

The Honkers lost to the Parkland Whitesox in the last game of pool play 0-9 putting the Honkers out of the tournament with a three way tie between the Honkers, Bulldogs and Whitesox each with a record of 2-1 sending the teams to a tie-breaker of runs scored against. 

The Honkers will return to the field Monday, July 8th against the Everett Merchants at Shorecrest High School at 7:00PM. HONK HONK!!
