Honkers go 1-2 in Stud Invitational

The Northwest Honkers finished out their regular season games in the Studs Invitational July 26-28th at University of Puget Sound and Curtis Senior High School.

In game one the Honkers faced the Seattle Studs losing 10-4 at University of Puget Sound Friday, July 26th. Honkers Dalton Gervais threw 3.1 innings for the loss. Honkers hitters started out strong putting up two in the first but Studs answered right back with two in the bottom of the first. Honkers went ahead in the top of the third 4-2 but the Studs did not stay quiet long putting up three in the bottom of the third taking the lead 5-4. The Studs went on to hold the Honkers to no more runs and put up two in the fourth and three in the seventh. Honkers first baseman Cameron Padron had a triple in the game driving in one along with designated hitter Clayton Truex with a double driving in two. Honkers third baseman Brandon Dormaier had two doubles in the game.

In game two the Honkers defeated the North Sound Emeralds 8-5 at Curtis Senior High School Saturday, July 27th. Honkers JD Scholten pitched six innings with Blake Fulghum in relief for one inning and Bobby Wassmann pitching two innings for the win. Honkers right fielder Dalton Gervais was 2 for 3 on the day with one double driving in one and a three run home run in the ninth inning. Honkers put up one in the second leading 1-0 into the fourth when the Emeralds put up four. The Honkers added one in the sixth but the Emeralds answered back with one in the bottom of the sixth going ahead 5-2. Honkers scored again in the seventh holding the Emeralds to five and rallying in the top of the ninth to score five.

In game three the Honkers faced the Northwest Star Academy losing 3-1. Honkers Jason Salers pitched five innings giving up no runs with Justin Ansdell in relief for one inning followed by Spencer Trautmann in relief for one inning for the loss and Jeff Wyner in the eighth to finish up the game. The game remained scoreless until the top of the fifth when the Honkers put up one. The NW Star Academy rallied back in the bottom of the seventh to pull ahead 2-1 and added one in the eighth to make it 3-1 for the final score.

Honkers now head down to Wichita, Kansas for the National Baseball Congress World Series. The Honkers first game is Friday, August 2nd at 10:00PM (central time) against the Santa Barbara Foresters. HONK HONK!!
