Honkers go 1-2 on the weekend

The Northwest Honkers played three games this weekend finishing 1-2. The Honkers traveled up to Burnaby this past Saturday for their first league games of the season dropping both 9-1 and 8-6. Honkers Jason Salers pitched six innings game one for the loss striking out eight and giving up only three hits with Tanner Braun in relief for the seventh inning. Honkers Bobby Wassmann went five innings in game two striking out six with Dalton Gervais in relief. The Honkers were down 7-0 in the sixth but fought back scoring five with short stop Martin Lawrence with a double in the inning along with first baseman Brandon Dormaier, second baseman Jordan Padilla and center fielder Andrew Cherin all with hits in the inning. In the top of the ninth the Honkers rallied back once again but fell short of scoring with the tying and winning runner on base losing 8-6.

On Sunday the Honkers traveled down to Pacific Lutheran University to play Big League and rallied back to win 5-4. Honkers Oliver Wange started the game pitching three innings with Chase Kairis and Bobby Jackson in relief and Braun closing. Honkers started the game down 4-1 but the Honkers bats came alive in the seventh with a Gervais double and Padilla driving him in with a  triple coming within reach by the end of the inning 4-3. The Honkers help Big League to no more runs in the seventh and eighth and rallied back once again in the top of the ninth with a lead off walk by Padilla and was driven in by Karsten Sherman for the tying run. Honkers Tyler Cherin hit in to a fielders choice which drove in Sherman for the go ahead run. Braun then held Big League in the bottom of the ninth for the save. Honkers Jackson recorded the win.

Honkers next game is tonight, June 3rd, at Marysville High School at 5:30PM against the Everett Merchants. HONK HONK!!
