Honkers go 1-2 against Yakima Pippens

The Northwest Honkers traveled over to Yakima to face the Yakima Valley Pippens Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday going _____ on the trip. In game one against the Pippens Honkers Tanner Braun pitched a no hitter going into the fifth eventually giving up four in seven innings for the win with Travis Bradshaw coming in for the save in the ninth inning. Honkers held a strong lead of 3-0 into the seventh inning when the Pippens were able to get a run across the plate to not get shutout. This is the first time this season the Pippens have been held to one run. Honkers shortstop Tyler Cherin had a double in the game with first baseman Clayton Truex driving in two and designated hitter Erik Peterson driving in one.

In game two the Pippens came out striking scoring five in the first two innings. The Honkers battled back in the fourth and fifth inning closing the gap to 5-3 but were unable to stop the Pippens in the seventh eventually dropping the game 8-3. Honkers JD Scholten pitched six innings for the loss with Oliver Wange in relief for two innings giving up only one hit. Honkers short stop Tyler Cherin had a triple in the game going 2 for 4 on the night.

In game three the game was within range for the Honkers in the first few innings being down only 3-1 but the Pippens did not let up making the score 11-1 after the fifth. The Honkers battled back in the eighth but was to little to later dropping the game 15-5. Honkers Jeff Wyner pitched four innings for the loss with Bobby Jackson, Martin Lawrence and Spencer Trautmann in for relief. Designated hitter Keenan Forch had a triple for the Honkers driving in two and right fielder Andrew Cherin had a double for the Honkers driving in one.

The Honkers stay home for the weekend taking on the Trail Orioles Saturday, June 21st at Shorecrest High School at 1:00PM for a double header. Don’t forget to come get your raffle tickets at the gate for your chance to win the Honkers door prize! Just $3 for some good baseball! HONK HONK!!
