Honkers beat Kitsap Hornets, drop one to Studs

The Northwest Honkers traveled to Bremerton Monday night to face the Kitsap Hornets at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds winning 4-0. Honkers Justin Ansdell pitched six innings for the winning giving up only two hits and striking out six. Spencer Trautmann, Tanner Braun and Oliver Wange each pitched one inning in relief. Center fielder Dalton Gervais and second baseman Jordan Padilla each had a double in the game for the Honkers with Padilla driving in two. Honkers held a small lead of 1-0 until the seventh scoring two and one in the ninth.

The Honkers then faced the Seattle Studs Tuesday night at Kent Memorial dropping the game 10-5. Honkers led the game 1-0 until the sixth inning when the Studs bats came alive scoring seven. But the Honkers answered right back scoring three in the bottom of the sixth off of Honkers left fielder Andrew Cherin’s three run home run. The Honkers added one more on in the seventh but the Studs did not let up scoring three in the top of the ninth. Honkers Jeff Wyner pitched 5.2 innings for the loss with Trautmann, Chase Kairis and Bobby Wassmann in relief. Center fielder Gervais and right fielder Cameron Padron each had a double in the game for the Honkers. First baseman Brandon Dormaier drove in one and Cherin drove in three.

The Honkers head to the Kamloops International Baseball Tournament in Kamloops, B.C. facing the Seattle Studs Thursday at 5:15PM and the Burnaby Bulldogs Friday at 11:45AM. The Honkers will then get seeded for bracket play in a double elimination style bracket.
