Honkers drop one to Studs, take one from the Merchants

The Northwest Honkers faced the Seattle Studs Wednesday night at Heidelberg Park in Tacoma losing 11-3. Honkers Bobby Jackson pitched 2.2 innings for the loss with Jeff Wyner, Martin Lawrence, Spencer Trautmann and Jordan Padilla in relief. Designated hitter Andrew Cherin went 2 for 3 on the night. Honkers second baseman Jordan Padilla, third baseman Josh Fitch and first baseman Clayton Truex each driving in one.

The Honkers then faced the Everett Merchants Thursday night at Shorecrest High School winning 4-3 in a battle back in the bottom of the ninth. The game remained scoreless until the top of the sixth when the Merchants drove in one and again one in the eighth with an answer back in the bottom of the eighth making the score 2-1 Merchants going into the ninth. In the top of the ninth the Merchants drove in one more run to make it a battle of 3-1 for the Honkers in the bottom of the ninth. Honkers short stop Erik Peterson had a double to drive in two to tie up the game and with players on second and third Honkers designated hitter Clayton Truex drove in the winning run with a single up the middle. Honkers Justin Ansdell started the game pitching five innings with Spencer Trautmann and Oliver Wange in relief and Josh Fitch in to close the game for the win.

Honkers now head up to Trail, B.C. to take on the Trail Orioles in a four game series. Game begin at 4:00PM on Saturday and 10:00AM on Sunday. HONK HONK!!
