Honkers alumni Jay Taylor passes away

jay taylorThe Northwest Honkers normally release stories of games, stats or player updates but the Honkers would like to take a second to remember an alumni player from the inaugural year in 2010, pitcher Jay Taylor, who passed away on August 22nd.

Jay Taylor, who grew up in West Seattle, was a top athlete in high school earning Metro League MVP and 1st Team All State. He moved on to play at Bellevue Community College winning two NWAACC championships there. Jay was also drafted by the Colorado Rockies out of high school but chose to forgo the offer to play in college.

“Jay was a key player to the Honkers in our inaugural season in 2010. He had tremendous ability and was a pleasure to be around in the dugout and on and off the field. It is hard to hear of someone being taken so young and we ask that everyone keep Jay’s family and close friends in their prayers during this difficult time. Although Jay only played one season for the Honkers, we believe once a Honker always a Honker and he will always be fondly remembered by the team,” general manager Martin Lawrence.

A celebration of Jay’s life is planned for Sunday, September 7th 2014 from 5pm-8pm at Salty’s on Alki (1936 Harbor Ave SW, Seattle, WA 98126)
