Gervais, Wange drafted to Pecos League

The Northwest Honkers are proud to announce outfielder Dalton Gervais and right handed pitcher Oliver Wange were drafted to the Pecos League earlier this week. Gervais is headed to the Alpine Cowboys in Alpine, Texas and Wange is headed to the Las Vegas Train Robbers in Las Vegas, New Mexico.

Gervais has played three summers for the Honkers with a career batting average of .290 with seventeen doubles and seven home runs. “Playing professional ball has always been my dream but I would have never accomplished it without the guys I played with and the coaches who taught me everything I know up to this point. Without question being a Honker helped me to be the player I wanted to be today and I enjoyed every second of not only the time I spent with this organization, but the people who built it,” said Gervais.

Wange has been a Honker for four summers, with a breakout summer in 2014 appearing in 17 games and posting a 1.84 ERA striking out twenty. “After years of hard work, determination, and the support from my family, friend, coaches and teammates I have been fortunate enough to take the step to the next level and get one step closer to a life long dream. It’s been a road that has had its ups and downs but I stayed persistent through the rough times and knew this is what I wanted to do. Playing for the Honkers for the past four years has allowed me to continue to develop as a pitcher which has allowed me to take that step to the next level. I am excited for my future and where baseball takes me,” Wange said.

“Mostly I want to say it has been a pleasure,” said general manager Martin Lawrence. “Both these young men are very deserving of this opportunity and have left the door wide open to come back and play for the Honkers when they are done playing professional baseball. We will miss them around the dugout, but we are nothing but happy for them in achieving their lifelong goals and taking their talents to the next level.”
