Honkers Sweep Kamloops

The Honkers traveled for a four game series to Kamloops, BC to face league opponent the Kamloops Sundevils sweeping the Sundevils.

In a game of offense the Honkers were able to capitalize on their 16 hits putting up 14 runs while the 12 hits of the Sundevils were only able to drive in five. Honkers fell behind early giving up two in the first inning but answered quickly driving in five, three and two in the next three innings and sealing the deal with one in the sixth and three in the seventh. Honkers catcher Zach Zurbrugg went 4 for 5 in the game with triple and four RBI’s. Right fielder Britten Abbott went 3 for 4 with a double and three RBI’s. Starting pitcher Mitch Eatmon went 4.2 innings for the win.

In game two Honkers bats were held to only six hits but were able to capitalize driving in five. Through six innings the Honkers were quite but broke out in the seventh driving in four. After an answer of two runs in the bottom of the seventh from the Sundevils to tie up the game the Honkers were able to drive one home in the ninth and hold in the ninth to seal the win. Honkers catcher Zurbrugg continued to have a hot bat going 3 for 3 in the game with two doubles. First baseman Cameron Padron had a double for the Honkers and drove in two. Starter Bobby Wassman pitched six innings with Spencer Trautmann in relief and closer Tyler Wilson pitching 2.2 innings for the win giving up just one hit and striking out two.

In day two game three of the four game series the Honkers were able to hold of the Sundevils push in the seventh for a 3-2 win. The Sundevils put a run up early in the bottom of the first but were unable to answer the two run fourth and one run fifth of the Honkers. Right fielder Abbott went 2 for 3 on the day. Honkers Brad Bennett pitched 2.0 innings for the win with Trautmann and Brandon Courville in relief and Chaz Lopez to close for the save.

In the last game of the series the Honkers were able to hold off a late run by the Sundevils to take the four game sweep 8-7. The Honkers put up runs early scoring all eight runs by the sixth inning and holding the Sundevils to only two runs in the bottom of the sixth until a late push by the Sundevils in the bottom of the ninth putting the game in reach driving in five. The Honkers were able to hold of the tying and winning run to seal the sweep. Catcher Zurbrugg went 2 for 3 with a double and triple in the matchup. First baseman Padron went 2 for 4 with three RBI’s and second baseman Padilla went 2 for 5 with two RBI’s.
