Goldpanners Beat Honkers 7-1, Split Season Series as Connor King Swipes His Way to POG

It was a unusual day for the Honkers, as the Goldpanners bested them in the second game of the series. The game seemed to have an opposite script for the Goldpanners as they were continuously capitalizing with runners in scoring position with timely extra base hits. This was the story of the previous ballgame for the Honkers but nothing seemed to go in there way in this game. The Honkers even had a run taken off the scoreboard as speedster Connor King stole second base previously in the inning, then took third base and looked like he scored when the catcher overthrew the third baseman and the ball sailed into the outfield. But the umpires had a quick discussion and sent King back to second because apparently there was time called on the field before the play began.

Starting pitcher Josh Collet wasn’t able to fool many of the Goldpanners, although he did cruise with four strikeouts and topped out at 86mph. He however, couldn’t control the zone and that led to three walks, which all came around to score. On the other side of the ball, the Honkers still put together a good offensive showing, evident of 9 hits on the evening, but didn’t have much to show for it, as they left the bases loaded on multiple occasions. The bright spot in the lineup continues to be Peter Dudinakis, as his hitting doesn’t seem like it won’t be slowing down any time soon. He had another 2-4 day at the plate and drove in the only run for the Honkers all day long. He lifted his season batting average up to .485, and now is up to third in the conference in batting average. His hot start to the season has carried the Honkers offense thus far. The difference in the ballgame was definitely the timely hitting and extra base hits, as the HOnkers just couldn’t seem to get those timely hits and all nine of there hits on the day were singles.

The Honkers will look to write the ship tomorrow as they take on the Redmond Dudes for a doubleheader at Interlake High School, as they look to get back on track.
