Honkers Take Game Two of Doubleheader in Offensive Outburst led by POG Chaz Lopez

The Honkers won game two of the doubleheader by a score of 8-2. The second game of the doubleheader was a much better sight for Honkers fans as the Honkers exploded offensively, as eight of the nine starters all reached base and featured many offensive stars. They were able to plate four runs in the first inning as the first six batters reached and they batted through the lineup.

Led by big extra base hits from Chaz Lopez and Logan Coe, the two continued to demolish Redmond pitching the entire night, as Logan Coe finished 2-4 with 3RBI’s and Chaz Lopez finished going 2-2 with two walks, two doubles, two RBI’s, and two stolen bases. This was a standout performance by Chaz and merited him with player of the game for his great all around play. In talking with Chaz, I got to know him a little bit better and we talked about how much pride he has been taking in his baserunning and is always looking to find ways to get better jumps. He has the right understanding of how to stay loose in a long day of baseball , as he actually pitched an inning in the first game, and was able to rebound by having a breakout performance in the second game. He also has been going with the mid calf stirrups that have been working out really well for him, and are a classic look. Chaz also claims that because his favorite type of food is Mexican cuisine, that any time he eats it he has an edge in his game, so watch out when Chaz gets some good food before next game.

The Honkers cruised to easy win in seven innings, and was a noticeable difference in the offensive production and amount of hard hit balls, chaos on the bases, and extra enthusiasm in the dugout. Another positive to take away from this game was the aggressiveness on the bases as seven swiped bags in the game were a season high. Speedy leadoff hitter Connor King continues to time get on base and run as soon as he can, as evident to his six stolen bases throughout this homestand.

The Honkers get some days off and then look forward to a trip to Vancouver BC, where they play in a fun annual tournament. Good luck to the boys and HONK HONK!!
